This weekend is full of art and wholesome events :) From the opening of Roxbury Open Studios to impactful documentaries and Diana Ross! Get out and “Find Your Fab!”

Friday, September 30

This weekend Discover Roxbury presents the 13th year of Roxbury Open Studios. For visual artists in the neighborhoods of Dudley Square, Grove Hall, Mission Hill, Fort Hill, and Egleston Square, Roxbury Open Studios is a once-a-year opportunity to welcome in the public to view and purchase paintings, drawings, sculptures, textiles, jewelry and other studio crafts.The events are FREE and the opening reception will be held at the National Center of Afro-American Artists (300 Walnut Ave). The Sundance Film Festival award-winning documentary Black Power Mixtape 1967 – 1975 will open at Landmark’s Kendall Square Cinema (1 Kendall Square). The film examines the evolution of the Black Power Movement in the black community and Diaspora from 1967 to 1975. It combines music, startling footage, and contemporary audio interviews from leading African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars. standard movie ticket pricing applies for more info click here!

Eliot School of Fine & Applied Arts presents designer Carol Price this Friday for a fall fashion show – “First Lady of the New World”. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. at First Church UU (6 Eliot Street, Jamaica Plain) and tickets are $10 at the door or here! There will be a reception after the show at the Eliot School featuring a the live jazz trio, The Handy Experience. For more information click here!

presents The Original All Black Affair: The Tribute at Moseley’s on the Charles (50 Bridge Street Dedham). The night will feature a LIVE Berklee band performance by SOUL4YOSYSTEM, R&B act Men at Large and host Jeremiah J.J. Williamson. Tickets are $25.00 in advance and $30.00 at the door. The African Cultural Society of St. Paul AME Church (85 Bishop Allen Drive, Cambridge) is presenting an African Fashion Show introducing the latest styles and trends in African dress in both traditional and contemporary fashions. Doors open at 3:00pm with an African Bazaar. Vendors will be selling African crafts, books, jewelry, and head wrapping demonstrations. Refreshments will be for sale. Spend “An Evening with Bill T. Jones”, a multi-talented artist, choreographer, dancer, theater director and writer who has received major honors ranging from a 1994 MacArthur “Genius” Award to Kennedy Center Honors in 2010. His works include choreography for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and collaborations with Toni Morrison. His ventures into Broadway resulted in two Tony Awards and an Obie award. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear Bill T. Jones share his candid and perceptive observations about directing, choreography and the life of an artist! The event will be held at Northeastern University Blackman Auditorium (360 Huntington Ave), show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $20 general admission and $12 for seniors and students here!

You are invited to a Special Mentor Night with BUILD which uses entrepreneurship to propel disconnected, low-income youth through high school to college. The event will be at Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen (604 Columbus Ave) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and will be hosted by Toya Tiffany of Hot 97 Boston. Take a trip down memory lane with ‘Female Entertainer of the Century’ Diana Ross for the Diana Ross Now: Greatest Hits Tour, which will be making its way to the Hanover Theater (2 Southbridge St, Worcester). Show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online.
